Environmental Home Assessment

Using the Environmental Health and Safety Assessment Tool in my home, brought to my attention a lot of different risks that I was not aware of. For example, radon exposure is a serious and potentially cancer-causing gas that I had never even heard of. Although it kills more people than carbon monoxide and home fires, it seems that there is a lack of information out there about it. I currently rent my home, and we only have a smoke and carbon monoxide detector, but not a radon one. The tool also forced me to find out the age of the house, which is 1945. It definitely is older than the 1978 cut-off date, but most of the paint has been redone within the last few years. I don't think that lead should be a problem, but it was good to check it out. I am also more aware of the risks of using sprays, air fresheners and candles. I had heard that they were not good for the environment, but did not fully understand why.
